Human Trafficking Destinations

In 2001, the US State Department published its first Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report; a diplomatic tool tracking governmental anti-human trafficking efforts.

Richard W. Frank of the Australian National University maintains an online open data repository of TIP data, called the Human Trafficking Indicators (HTI), which includes data from 2001 to 2011 for 179 countries, assessing each country’s role as a source, transit location, or destination for human trafficking.

Variations in regional and global spread can be observed when comparing labor types. This can be seen most notably when comparing Prostituion (global spread over the 11 year period) with Child Soldiers (restricted regional growth over time), which you can compare below.

Also feel free to explore other variations in global human trafficking patterns by selecting from one of the other TPI-defined forced labor categories.
